Diet Phase, Stage 1: Clear Liquids
Sip 1 ounce of fluid over 15 minutes. Which means taking only small sips of liquid over 15 minutes. In the stage 1 diet the only foods, drinks allowed are:
Water
Sugar-free gelatin and popsicles
Ice chips
Calorie-free, non-carbonated, caffeine-free or decaffeinated beverages

Diet Phase, Stage 2: Protein-based Liquids
Phase Goals: 60 to 80 grams per day and 56 to 65 ounces of fluid per day
Breakfast
8 oz of water (2 hours)
8 oz of Protein Drink (over 2 hours)
Mid-Morning
8 oz of water (2 hours)
2 oz sugar-free gelatin (30min)
Lunch
8 oz of water (2 hours)
4 oz low-fat Greek yogurt (1 hour)
Mid-Afternoon
8 oz of water (2 hours)
4 oz of protein drink (1 hour)
Dinner
8 oz of protein drink (2 hours)
1 sugar-free popsicle (30 min)
Diet Phase, Stage 3: Puree
Phase Goals: 60 to 80 grams per day and 56 to 65 ounces of fluid per day. Sample Meal Plan: Phase 3
Morning
8 oz of caffeine-free tea
1/4 cup non-fat cottage cheese
Mid-Morning
8 oz of protein drink
16 oz of water
Lunch
4 oz of protein drink
1/8 cup cooked and mashed vegetables
16 oz of water
Mid-Afternoon
16 oz of water
8 oz of protein drink
Dinner
1/8 cup mashed tuna
3 bites no sugar added applesauce
8 oz of water
Diet Phase, Stage 4: Soft Foods
Phase Goals: 60 to 80 grams per day and 56 to 65 ounces of fluid per day
Breakfast:
One scrambled egg
1/8 cup soft fruit
4 oz protein shake
8 oz of water
Mid-Morning
4 oz protein drink
16 oz of water
Lunch
1-2 oz chicken
3 bites green beans
Mid-Afternoon
8 oz fat-free or 1% milk
16 oz of water
Dinner
1/2 cup refried beans with 1 oz melted cheese
2 bites of a banana
8 oz of water

Eat protein first.
Essential Components You NEED in Every Meal Plan
Choose lean proteins (chicken, fish, lean beef, tofu, low-fat cheese, etc.).
Incorporate a variety from all food groups.
Carbs- vegetables, fruits, beans, lentils, high-protein grains
Fats- avocado, nuts, seeds, olives, oils
Chew food thoroughly.
Space meals 2-3 hours apart.
Do not drink liquids with meals.
There are different meal planning diets that work well for most patients, although different post-op phases utilize different nutrition plans.
Avoid sweets, juice, processed foods, and alcohol.
Day 1
Calories 1294 calories, protein 80 grams, carbohydrates 71 grams

1 poached egg
1 slice whole grain bread
1 TBS Avocado
Mid-Morning
½ sliced apple
2 TBS Peanut butter
Lunch
Romaine salad, cucumber, carrots, tomatoes
1 TBS olive oil and balsamic vinegar to taste
